Once the flowers begin to fade, cut back lavender with a clean sharp pair of secateurs or hand shears. Take off the faced flowers along with a 3-5 cm of current years growth, remove any dead and debris and keep good air circulation around the centre of the plants.  Pruning in August allows any cut foliage to callus and harden before the winter. Lavender can also be pruned in early spring, to help keep bushes neat.

August is the perfect month for trimming conifers and hedges. Continue to dead head perennials and roses to keep those blooms coming
